Welcome to the personal web space/blog of Bill vander Sluys. This site is built around the Drupal CMS. (that's Content Management System). I thought (fleetingly) about coding a PHP and MySQL website from scratch but decided that I had a life and didn't want to spend countless hours re-inventing the wheel! This theme is Acquia Slate, modified to my liking. work in progress! :)

I've purchased a used Leafscan 45 film scanner, it should arrive within a week or so. I'll have 4x5 and Fuji FP-100C45 (negative) scans online when I get the old scanner working. Silverfast Ai Studio will capture scans. I need a transmission densitometer now, as correct negative densities are critical to successful platinum/palladium printing...

Initial shots with the Rittreck and Fuji FP-100C45 look promising, I'm still testing to achieve proper negative densities for the platinum/palladium printing process. Work in progress!

Of all the film formats I missed the most till now, Large Format was at the top of the list. Recently I've found a good deal on a Rittreck 5x7 View (Wista) on Ebay and am now waiting patiently for it to arrive. It includes a Fujinar-W 15cm F6.3 in Seikosha-SLV shutter, Polaroid 550 back and 4x5 sheet film holders. This is a backpackable metal field camera with enough movements for my photographic subjects. Now shopping for deals on Fuji FP-100C45 and Fuji FP-100B45 peel apart.

Although it can be good discipline to shot with a single lens I've found my Tamron 17-35mm to be a bit constraining in some situations, especially when needing to blur out a background. The bokeh from the Tamron leaves much to be desired. I've now added a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro to my Canon system. This lens is sharp wide open and has beautiful bokeh.

Well, now I guess we'll see how good my Tamron SP AF 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di LD IF really is covering a full frame sensor. The 5D is a solid feeling camera with impressive response and start-up time. Its a real treat to compose with its 96% frame coverage viewfinder. Read the full dpreview.com review here...

After patient waiting a used 5D became available through a local camera retailer in Vancouver BC. With a 12.8 Megapixel full frame sensor and Digic II imaging pipeline, I couldn't pass this up.

Used RZ67 Pro 2 is here, looks good - will run a roll of Fujichrome Provia 100 through it this weekend.
